Garden Migrants

Lade - 0600hrs - warm, dry, sunny, e 2 - Put the second moth trap out last night, (a home made Skinner type) but still only pulled in 30 species combined, mainly due to a brisk east wind overnight. Best two moths were Toadflax Brocade and Clay amongst loads of Dark Arches, Heart and Darts and the like. Whilst clearing the trap at least 2 Greenshanks went down the coastline calling, (the first I`ve had on the return), plus Med Gulls and Sandwich Terns over. Also in the garden conifers Willow Warbler and Blackcap, first of the passerines on the move.

                                       Toadflax Brocade

                                          Clay

Wandered over to check the local gullery where 4 Med Gull juvs were on the water amongst hundreds of Black-headed Gulls. Another Greenshank, on the deck, (probably one of the birds heard earlier), plus a trickle of Sand Martins south. Plenty of Common Blues and Marbled Whites already on the wing due to the warm sunshine.
